I accept that the country needs a plentiful supply of renewable, preferably green energy but I am very much against these dreadful monoliths. If you look at the BWEA lie sitenod, there is a map showing the forced march of these monstrosities as they sweep inexorably across this beautiful country, (and even then many sites are not mapped, e.g. the 10 rarely rotating propellors, at Burton Latimer in Northamptonshire). Big business, along with greedy landowners, are cleverly cajoling town councils, which are blinkered by our dreadful government into allowing this blight to envelop and destroy the serenity of our environment. What is really wrong is that there are so many far better methods of resolving this issue. Methods like wavepower, tidalpower, submerged turbine tidal power - see: http://www.technologyreview.com/Energy/18567/ - that could very quickly come online, if money wasn't being thrown away on giant windmills.
Obviously I will be called a NIMBY as there have just been submissions to build 16 of these 400ft hideous erections, local to my village. They will however be about three miles from where I live and not in my direct view so my concern is not with them being local to me, but with them existing onland at all. My village has a church which has a tall spire and from it's very top apparently you can see 5 counties. Presumably this means that the spire can be seen from this distance as well. This spire is 190ft high and these windmills are going to be 400ft, (123 metres and more than double the height of the church). I wonder from how many counties you will be able to see these eyesores. And that's just local to me. In Northamptonshire there are submissions for several other "Windfarms" all at this height, Bozeat 16, Barton Seagrave, (about 2 miles from Burton Latimer) another 6 and so the infestation goes on.
We have little or no chance of stopping this because we have a government that doesn't listen or care, however if you think it might make a difference vote on the PM's petitions website, on: http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/windban/ and please pass this on because it hasn't been widely publicised - I wonder why???madcool
PS:
If your undecided please have a look at this Telegraph article, it has real facts and figures and shows just how useless these windmills are:
