Fenland Landscape Against Turbines

PRESS RELEASE 30th June 2007

On Saturday the 23rd June, Jan and David McGuffog hosted a private Garden Party at their home, The Vicarage, Church Bank, Marshland St James.  The event was organised to raise funds for the local action group (Fenland Landscape Against Turbines - FLAT) who are opposing the plan to desecrate our local environment by the erection of 26, 139 metre high wind turbines on land owned by a group of local farmers.

Attractions at the event included a bring and buy sale, delicious homemade cakes, tombola, bouncy castle, BBQ and a host of other activities.  Over 100 local people came to the party and almost £500 was raised for the FLAT fighting fund.

Lyndon Mason, the Chairman of FLAT said “we are delighted with the support shown by the local community and this again demonstrates the huge amount of local opposition to this massive and unwelcome wind factory proposal.  As has happened with the land owner in Congham, we are always hopeful that the current members of the consortium will appreciate the strong feelings of local people and reconsider their decision to allow the turbines to be built on their land.  To discontinue the development would show their desire to put the local environment and community above their own personal financial gain”.
